Book 156 Don't look behind you by Ann Rule

Don't Look Behind You: Ann Rule's Crime Files #15
Kindle Edition
 844 books to go!
Summary:
This is the latest volume of case files written by Ann Rule. In this installment of case files she wrote two feature stories about cases gone cold. One was the story of Joe Tarricone, who was found nearly 30 years later buried on a rental property and the story of Joann Hansen, a battered wife gone missing, believed to be killed by her husband. Her two mini stories were about the cases of Bethany Stockberry, a married woman who's body was found over 4th of July weekend in the 70s and two serial rapists that were eventually caught.

Opinion:
I did enjoy this book, but I was disappointed that it did not feature more case files. I am an Ann Rule fanatic, I love her books and have read all of them. I just wanted more case files but it was a pretty interesting book otherwise. She sends a powerful message to all her readers, they are basic safety rules that every woman should follow, although some do not. Personally I recommend every woman read at least one true crime novel  as it will raise awareness. As she said at the conclusion of this book, you are the first line in your own defense.

Why I chose to read this:
When I found out this book came out I was pretty ecstatic. I had to read it because I'm a definite ARF, but I was also itching to read a true crime. I haven't been reading too much from this genre lately, so it was good to pick one up.

Book 155 Them or Us by David Moody

Them or Us (Hater)
Kindle

845 books to go!

Summary:
The last book in the Hater trilogy. Danny McCoyne finds himself in the town of Lowestoft. Most of the unchanged are gone and the haters fight with each other over the last bit of usable resources available to London since the hate took over. When Danny finds a bunker full of unchanged he has to choose to help them or save them.

Opinion:
I love this trilogy. To me it's pure genius. I've mentioned this before but I love how David Moody puts a twist on the ever so popular zombie phenomenon. His work also raises questions of great morality. Danny is a key character of this trilogy, it's very interesting to see his evolution and character change.

Why I chose to read this:
This was an easy choice as it was the third book of the hater trilogy. I read the first one years ago and have been eagerly awaiting the second and third book in the series ever since.

Book 154 Seance in Sepia by Michelle Black

Séance in Sepia (Five Star Mystery Series)

846 books to go!

Summary:
This story takes place in present day and in 1875. The chapters take place in alternating time periods. The story starts when Flynn Kiernan finds a spirit photograph at an estate sale. She puts the photograph up for auction on eBay. When the auction soars she begins to learn the details of the people in the photograph and of the famous trial in Chicago of 1875 known as the Free Love Murders.

Opinion:
I loved this! This book falls into the category of historical suspense, the story was great I kept wondering what would happen and how the mystery of the death of Medora Lamb and Cameron Langley would eventually be solved. One of the few newly published books worth the read.

Why I chose to read this:
This was another random find on the new book cart at work.

Book 153 Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee by Sarah Silverman

The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee
Kindle Edition

847 books to go!

Summary:
Comedian Sarah Silverman's autobiography.

Opinion:
This book was alright. I wasn't overly thrilled with it, I feel a little bad for Sarah Silverman she's had quite a few celebrity disasters as well as triumphs. I'd like to be a little nicer and say this book was one of her triumphs but in my personal opinion it was more of an amusing disaster. I do have to give her accolades to admitting she wet the bed long past her little kid stages, it seemed to have profoundly affected her. The one kudos of this book was her coming clean about her bedwetting and not trying to hide it like other celebrities might do.

Why I chose to read this:
This was one of the books on my kindle that I got for free. I thought it was going to be a funny read and not so much an autobiography which is why I read it.

Book 152 - Awkward Family Pet Photos

Awkward Family Pet Photos
Kindle Edition

848 books to go!

Summary:
This is a spin off of Awkward Family Photos. Both Awkward Family Photos and Awkward Family Pet Photos originated as websites. They've now been released as published books.

Opinion:
For what it is the book was good. I usually love a good humorous book whether it's humor in written form or humor in photo form with some writing. Some of these photos are pretty funny, some are funny but downright bizarre. There's a kindle edition but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have the kindle fire. Previous generation kindles although they are pretty damn cool don't handle color photos. You can see photos on them but not color. The fire since it is a color screen and android based kindle should actually be able to handle a book with color photographs or dare I say art prints.

Why I chose to read this:
This was another random find on the new book cart. At my job the circulation staff sometimes puts a new book cart out at the information desk for the librarians to look at. Most of the time I am strongly tempted and end up checking out books on the new book cart even though I already have books checked out plus a fuckton of my own books to read at home.

Book 151 Eye Candy by R.L. Stine

Eye Candy
Kindle Edition

849 books to go!

Summary:
Lindy decides to date again after the death of her former boyfriend. Her friend persuades her to join an online dating service. Soon Lindy finds herself forced to say yes to a few different guys at once because one of them might be a crazed killer.

Opinion:
This book was alright. There was the unexpected very twisted ending, usually R.L. Stine has the character you least suspect as the person behind the mayhem in his books. The writing didn't flow all that smoothly. Probably alright for a young adult which is his typical audience.

Why I chose to read this:
I was randomly deciding what next to read on the kindle cloud. I thought I'd give this a go since I fondly remembered my R.L. Stine teenage reading days.

Book 150 Autumn the City by David Moody

Autumn: The City
Kindle Edition
850 books to go!

Summary:
Book 2 of what is currently a 4 part series, about 60 survivors some scattered, most of them together in a group hide out in the city as corpses rise and become zombies after what seemed like a virus initially killed most of the population. The survivors are faced with a choice to stay inside the city or try to escape to see what else could be out there.

Opinion:
This book was okay. It reads pretty fast if you have the time to sit down with it. I found myself half paying attention to the story, half zoning out while reading it so I'm following the story but some of it is slipping by me. I'm honestly not sure I'm going to continue with the series, there are 2 more books but I'm on the fence about reading them. Autumn was Moody's first work, his hater series is a whole lot better.

Why I chose to read this:
I found out about the Autumn series after reading the first two books of the hater series, I'm on the third one now and I wanted to read them.

Book 149 Cat Calls by Jeanne Adlon and Susan Logan

Cat Calls
851 books to go!

Summary:
Jeanne Adlon a cat sitter working in NYC talks about her experiences as a cat sitter and provides helpful advice to readers about caring for their cats.

Opinion:
I liked this book, it was full of useful information and I learned something that I need to try with my kitty cats. I thought there would be more kitty cat stories, but the book was 75% information, 25% stories. Still useful and a pretty good quick read.

Why I chose to read this:
This was a random find on the new book cart at work. I decided to pick it up and read it, glad I did.
