Book 239 The Middlesteins by Jami Attenberg

The Middlesteins: A Novel

761 books to go!

The Middlesteins is about a Jewish family, the main character of the novel Edie is addicted to food. Her husband decides to leave her after many years of marriage and the family gets upset with his choice to leave Edie in her sickness. The novel mainly deals with the psychological aspects of an overweight relative who doesn't want to help themselves and the burden it puts on the family. Primarily I chose to read this book because I am dealing with the same kind of situation that the characters in the novel deal with when they interact with Edie. I understood where a few of the characters were coming from, what they were dealing with and why they made the choices they made. To me this novel was very fascinating a good psychological fiction.

Book 234 I, Monster by Tom Philbin

I, Monster: Serial Killers in Their Own Chilling Words

766 books to go!

This book is an account of various serial killers, each serial killer featured has a paragraph or two of background information followed by the serial killer's own words. Each killer's words came from written accounts, accounts of court trials, and accounts of interviews.

I didn't really enjoy this book, I felt like I had to suffer through it. It's good for some quick research on certain killers, especially killers that don't have much information about them published, but the author's sources are sometimes not credible so the research aspect quality is questionable.
