Book 48 - Latte Trouble by Cleo Coyle

Latte Trouble (Coffeehouse Mysteries, No. 3)
Latte Trouble (Coffeehouse Mysteries, No. 3)
952 books to go!

This book is the third in a coffeehouse mystery series I have absolutely fallen in love with. I polished off this book on my kindle in record time and I'm ready and rearing to go on with number 4. These are quick and easy reads that will amuse you as well as provide you with on point coffee trivia, I can verify this because I'm reading factual books about the history of coffee, Ms. Coyle is right on on point with her research and facts for these lovely works of fiction.

In this third novel of the series, Clare is trying to solve the mystery of a poisoning that took place during a party the village blend through for Lottie Harmon during fashion week. The very end of the novel heats up and packs a surprising punch as well as solving the mystery.

I will tout the praises of these mysteries, I am impressed with this one as well as the two others I have read and the one that I read out of sequence, these are great for a light intriguing read with just enough intelligence to keep your brain exercised, this series is full of win.

Book 47 - The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

The Lovely Bones
The Lovely Bones

953 books to go!

I read this novel a while ago when it first came out, but I decided to re-read it as well as reading another Alice Sebold novel I found while stumbling across both of them when helping a patron at the library.

I do not regret this re-read at all, this novel is stunning, very beautiful, and extremely heartwarming. The story blew me away, had me enchanted and spellbound turning the pages one by one anxious to know what would happen.

The lovely bones is the story of Susie Salmon. Susie is murdered while she is 14. The story starts when Susie is in heaven, it's told from her point of view as she watches her family and her killer on earth. Alice Sebold's idea of heaven for this book is extremely interesting, the beginning is a little hard to take as her murder is partially described, but after that while Susie watches her family and tells the story, the book is quite amazing.

In my opinion this book is worth reading, I think I shall check out the movie as well, although in most cases I find the book to be much better than it's film counterpart.

Book 46 - The coffee Lover's Companion by Diana Rosen

The Coffee Lover's Companion: The Ultimate Connoisseur's Guide to Buying, Brewing and Enjoying Coffee

954 books to go!

I checked this book out from work along with a few other coffee books that might end up making this blog as well. My desire is to learn more about coffee since I appreciate the drink so much. This book was great, it's 172 pages of incredibly useful coffee information. It includes coffee history, coffee information from around the world, recipes, coffee trivia, and a coffee glossary. There is a brief overview of almost anything you might wish to know about coffee.

I intended to buy this book halfway through reading it after realizing what a treasure it is....that and I also want to try out some of the recipes. What seals the deal on the purchase of this book for me though is that it is a penny on amazon not including shipping and tax charges, which are fairly cheap. If you want to learn about coffee this is a great book for it :)

Book 45 - The girl who kicked the hornet's nest by Stieg Larsson

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

955 books to go!

Finally finished up this best selling, ever so popular trilogy. Overall I'm happy with the outcome of these books, the author tied up every loose end quite nicely, and the underdog ends up winning. The very end of the book also questions morality big time. All three series in the trilogy go back and forth, the author has a scene with action and suspense, followed by scenes of minute detail of a character's movements. It makes the book interesting, and provides a good break in between action scenes.

I definitely don't regret reading these three books, the first one is a little hard to get into but if you can get into them you'll enjoy a great read and understand why this trilogy has taken off.

Book 44 - Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten years later by Francine Pascal

Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later (Sweet Valley High)
Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later (Sweet Valley High)
956 books to go!

I wasn't overly impressed with this book. I knew it was going to be a piece of minor fluff from the beginning, but I was curious to read it since I gobbled up Sweet Valley books when I was younger, up until 14 or 15. For anyone who wishes to read it, I won't go into details but the book begins with Elizabeth and Jessica separated cross country due to a terrible betrayal. As the book goes on with both twins suffering from losing each other, there's tons of drama followed by a happy ending, one bit of drama was too much for me, when a screaming family match ensued in the middle of a California country club. Additionally seems to be Francine Pascal's favorite word in this novel. If you're curious because you used to read Sweet Valley you can give this book a go but it's not very good and I can't in good faith recommend it as a read.

Book 43 - Under the dome by Stephen King

by Stephen King Under the Dome, A Novel 1 edition
by Stephen King Under the Dome, A Novel 1 edition

957 books to go!

This novel was a beast to finish, 1072 pages. But it was worth it! This is the second book I've read by Stephen King and I'm looking forward to eventually reading more of his work.

This story is about the small town of Chester's Mill, ME. One day a dome covers the entire town and the residents are stuck inside this dome. They can't get out, and anything the government and army try to do in order to break open the dome and release the residents fails. All sorts of drama and horror takes place as the residents try to figure out why the dome is over the town and what they can do to take it off. There's a lot of death as well and hopelessness. It's also chock full of symbolism.

This novel is a great read, it may take you awhile but it's worth the time put into it.

Book 42 - Lolita by Vladimir Nabakov

Lolita
Lolita

958 books to go!

Been awhile since I finished a book! Too long! I've been chewing through this beast of a novel by Stephen King, Under the dome, soon I'll blog about it, I still have 321 pages to go through at this point. I usually have a book at Shawn's, a book on my kindle and a book at work that I work through, I have books at my parent's too, but when I go home to them I really don't end up reading, I'm rarely around and have lots of random stuff to do when I'm there.

I like to pick up a classic on occasion, if you really pay attention to the writing and reading of it you can interpret and understand what's going on....a book summary of the classic also helps too. I've been interested in the possibility of reading Lolita for a very long time, so I finally read it.

As with most classics I was not disappointed at all. Nabokov's writing is incredibly creative and descriptive, he also writes a perverse story with quite the violent ending. He could have easily made this story pornographic smut too considering what it's about, but in the form of a good classic piece, despite the topic and storyline of this novel, it's extremely far from pornographic smut and leaves a lot up to the reader's imagination.

In case you don't know Lolita is about a professor who falls in love with his boarder's young daughter and is determined to win her affections and have her love, even though she's very young and could be his daughter.

I'm very pleased with this work, a good classic is very refreshing from a contemporary work, and to me great brain stimulation.
