Book 208 Cindy Sherman by Eva Respini

Cindy Sherman
792 books to go!

Summary:
This book features two essays, a conversation with Cindy Sherman and many of her photographs. This book was created for her exhibit at the MOMA which I didn't get to go see :(

Opinion:
I loved this book! Every time I get to know more about Sherman and her work, I like her more and more as an artist, apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way because she's a pretty famous in demand artist at this time.

Why I chose to read this:
Ordered it for the library and I wanted to read it once it was ready for check out. One of the greatest things about being a quasi art librarian, I now ensure the library has a few books about Cindy Sherman and lots of books about photography.

Book 207 The bride collector by Ted Dekker

The Bride Collector
The Bride Collector - kindle edition

793 books to go!

Summary:
A serial killer is stalking and killing pretty women and naming them his brides. It's up to Brad Raines an FBI agent to find this man. Brad enlists the help of a gifted crew of mental patients to find and stop the killer.

Opinion:
This book was alright. There was some suspense, some horror and some gore. I was annoyed in the middle because one of the characters was killed off, I was kind of hoping this character would be saved but once the book was done I realized why the author may have wanted to kill the character mid book. It just didn't thrill me, another reader might feel differently though.

Why I chose to read this:
I thought I had this book on my kindle to read for free, but when I went to delete it I couldn't find it. I know it was on a list of books I'm keeping to read and it looked like it could be interesting, so I chose to check out the e-book and read it on the kindle cloud.

Book 205 Unorthodox by Deborah Feldman

795 books to go!

Summary:
Deborah Feldman grew up in Brooklyn, raised in the sect of Satmar Hasidic Jews. In this memoir she talks about her life in the sect and her eventual break away from the sect and into the outside world.

Opinion:
This book was alright. It provided a good inside view into the world of hasidic and orthodox judaism, but the writing wasn't anything to write home about.

Why I chose to read this:
A lot of people at the library have been asking about it, so I figured I'd read it to see how it was.

Summary:
Pamela Redmond Satran created a list for Glamour magazine called 30 things every woman should have and should know by the time she's 30. When the internet was created the list went viral and many other woman were credited with creating this list. recently the list was published in this book along with wisdom and illustrations about each thing on the list from various women writers and the editors of glamour magazine.

Opinion:
I liked this book a lot. I was trying to feel happy when I read it but while I was halfway through reading the book I got into my second car accident so I was bummed, worried and shocked about that while I was finishing the book. The writing was terrific, it is a pretty inspirational book and if you are already 30 still read it. It actually made me order a black lace bra off Victoria Secret's website, but I still haven't gotten the screwdriver or cordless drill yet.

Why I chose to read this:
Someone actually asked for it at the library. When they asked it was a week before my 30th birthday so I figured why not give the book a shot.

Book 203 Cindy Sherman the early works 1975 - 1977 Catalogue Raisonne

Cindy Sherman: The Early Works: Catalogue Raisonné, 1975-1977
 797 books to go!

It's been almost a whole month since I last blogged about any books I read. I've read a few in the past month, so now it's time to play catch up and blog about them.

Summary:
This book has 85 pages of text in the beginning, analyzing Sherman's early work when she was working in Buffalo after college before leaving to live and work in NYC. After the text the book has images of her early work from this time period. In addition to the images of her work there are  some notes available for viewing as well.

Opinion:
I thought this book was awesome. I absolutely love Cindy Sherman's work, and this book was perfect in regards to details about her earlier work. I learned a lot I didn't know about her, I had no idea she worked with cut outs in her early work, before moving to the city to start working on self portraits. I also figured out that maybe I like her so much because she dresses up, and I actually like dressing up and cosplay even though I really don't do it too often.

Why I chose to read this:
I ordered this book for the library because we had barely anything here on Cindy Sherman. I decided to read it after I picked a call number for it and put it through for processing.
