Book 180 The Lost Wife by Alyson Richman

The Lost Wife
The Lost Wife - Kindle Edition

820 books to go!

Summary:
This is a love story about two young people who get married in Prague before the holocaust. They are separated when Lenka refuses to leave her family and Josef goes with his family to escape the nazi invasion. Years later they are reunited in the most strange way.

Opinion:
This story was great, very captivating, despite the sadness it was quite a magical read.

Why I chose to read this:
This was the Long Island Reads selection for this year, I wanted to read it so I was familiar with it if a patron asked about it.

Book 179 Abendlied by Jennifer Linforth

821 books to go!

As usual when I include a phantom of the opera work the review is in my POTO blog

Book 178 In her shoes by Jennifer Weiner

In Her Shoes : A Novel
In Her Shoes - Kindle edition

822 books to go!

Summary:
This book is about two grown up sisters, Rose and Maggie. Rose is successful, Maggie is not. This chick lit novel covers a period in the lives of these two sisters before and after a falling out, the novel also features their long lost grandmother.

Opinion:
I enjoyed the book, the writing had me racing to finish it! I saw the movie a couple of years ago, of course the book had much more information then the movie did, although the movie was still enjoyable.

Why I chose to read this:
Occasionally I'll opt for a good chick lit, I was curious to read the book after seeing the movie. I like comparing the movie to the book.

Book 177 The Surrender by Toni Bentley

The Surrender: An Erotic Memoir

Summary:
This is an erotic memoir written by Toni Bentley mainly about anal sex. She finds a partner to embark on this sexual adventure and the book details the encounters with this partner.

Opinion:
At first I thought the book wasn't too bad but then it got to be pretty gross. The anal sex part was tolerable, people are into whatever they wish to be into and if they find a partner willing to be with them that's fine. But she was in love with her partner and actually saved the condoms when they were through with their encounters. I think it's great to have tokens of your love, but I'm more for normal tokens of love, the creepiest thing being a lock of hair inside of a locket. Shawn and I have plenty of tokens of our love saved but they are normal, you know photos, cards written to each other, not used DNA!

Why I chose to read this:
I actually came across it at work. I remember this book caused a stir when it was published so I had to read what all the fuss was about. I also heard the author's interview on Howard Stern.

Book 176 The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Kindle Edition

824 books to go!

Summary:
HeLa cells came from Henrietta Lacks. The cells were scraped from her when she had cervical cancer, they were grown in a lab and immortalized. Today her cancer cells still live and are used for research. This book details who Henrietta Lacks was and talks about her family.

Opinion:
This was a good read. It made me think how wrong it was for Henrietta's cells to be scraped and grown in a lab without her permission. So many scientists have made money off of these cells, and in my opinion it's very sad because her family hasn't benefited from this at all. This whole thing has actually made one of her daughters very sick. I give props and credit to Rebecca Skloot for talking to the family and at least providing a book about Henrietta.

Why I chose to read this:
I kept hearing about this book after it made the NYTs best seller list. Decided to pick it up for a bit of good non fiction besides the true crime that I'm addicted to.

Book 175 Cloudburst by VC Andrews

Cloudburst (Storms)
Cloudburst (Storms) - Kindle Edition

825 books to go!

Will I get to number 200 before I get married, I think so but we'll see!

Summary:
This is the second book in the latest Storm series. Sasha continues living in the Marsh family mansion, the happy life she's been leading with the March family begins to waiver when she meets handsome Ryder Garfield and rumors of affairs Donald has been having come to light for Jordan.

Opinion:
This was an interesting read. I like to pick up V.C. Andrews books. The original ones were truly horrifying and I wonder what made this author tick. She died a very long time ago but many of her ideas were left behind so authors continue to ghost write for her. Most of her books are at least satisfying there is only one I was left unhappy with after reading.

Why I chose to read this:
V.C. Andrews is still a good brain candy fall back. I've quit Patterson, at least the stuff coming out in her name is new and different. I also like how she sets up the character in a rich mansion, but provides troubles to show that money indeed will not make a person happy or solve all of their problems.

Book 174 Death on the D list by Nancy Grace

Death on the D-List (Hailey Dean)
Kindle Edition

826 books to go!

Summary:
This is the second in a book series by Nancy Grace featuring Hailey Dean. Hailey Dean is a former prosecutor, now psychologist. In this book she teams up with her former rival Police officer Kolker to go after a serial killer killing D list celebrities.

Opinion:
I liked this book, I like a female character that can solve a mystery and accomplish a lot. Although in my opinion no female mystery solving character will be better then my coffee house manager hero Clare Cosi.

Why I chose to read this:
This was one of the many books that Shawn got for my kindle for nothing. I think with the amount of books he gave me I'll be occupied for years with my kindle, more so now that I'm back to driving again and am not reading my kindle while on the trains or buses anymore. My kindle is coming with us on my honeymoon though, I'll read it on the plane and on the beach....I really don't know how much I'll end up reading on the honeymoon though, we'll be otherwise occupied ;)
