Book 305 Hemingway's Cats by Carlene Brennan

Hemingway's Cats

695 books to go!

This is part biography about Ernest Hemingway, part biography about the many cats he owned. Very interesting read if you like cats and you like Hemingway. I revere both of them. The book has a perfect amount of photo to text ratio.

Book 304 Little Children by Tom Perotta

Little Children: A Nove

696 books to go!

A story centered around suburban life. Some of the characters are Sarah, a former feminist turned house wife, Todd, the stay at home handsome dad, and MaryAnn, the overly uptight mom who plans every detail down to the minute including a scheduled romp in the hay with her husband. When a convicted sex offender moves into town and an affair begins the action in the novel heats up.

I love Tom Perotta's work. This is the second novel I've read by him. His work is genius it says something deeper than the action that happens in the story. What it says I'm honestly not sure about because I haven't had time to think it over, but I know there's double meaning that goes along with the action of the novel. Can't wait to read some more of his work!

Book 303 My Nest Isn't Empty is Just has more closet space by Lisa Scottoline and Francesca Seritella

My Nest Isn't Empty, It Just Has More Closet Space: The Amazing Adventures of an Ordinary Woman

697 books to go!

This is the first collection of short stories written by Lisa Scottoline and her daughter Francesca Seritella.

I'm actually saddened about finishing this book because it means I've gone through every one of Scottoline's  books so far that contain amusing stories about her, her daughter Francesca, her mother Mary and her brother Frank. Hopefully she will have something new in the works for the future.

Book 302 Blood Lite III Aftertaste edited by Kevin J. Anderson

Blood Lite III: Aftertaste

698 books to go!

This is a third compilation of various short stories, some are new stories, some stories have characters that are part of a book series.

My favorite story in this book was titled Brians it was a comically genius piece of work. If you are into the paranormal these three Blood Lite books will provide you with much reading amusement.

Book 301 Quiet Please by Scott Douglas

Quiet, Please: Dispatches from a Public Librarian

699 books to go!

An extremely well put together memoir about falling into a career as a librarian.

This book was amusing and gripping. I could definitely relate to the incidents the author described because similar incidents happen to me at work too, since I too am a public librarian. Sometimes it's nice to read a public librarian memoir and realize the same thing happens elsewhere.

Book 300 Weegee by Weegee

Weegee by Weegee: An Autobiography

700 books to go!

Finally after a long ass time blogging I've reached book # 300!!! Small celebration!

Apparently I picked a book that's worth a lot of money for book number 300. I hope you might buy other books I've blogged about but unless you are a serious collector, check this one out of the library.

This is Weegee's autobiography, I was curious about Weegee's work so I picked up this book. The guy is a good photographer but his writing is most likely on a fifth or sixth grade level. It's at least interesting to read about him and his work through his own words.

Books 297, 298, and 299 Lucky, Gorgeous and Brilliant by Rachel Vail

Lucky (Avery Sisters Trilogy)

Gorgeous (Avery Sisters Trilogy)

Brilliant (Avery Sisters Trilogy)

703, 702 and 701 books to go!

Normally I don't opt to put together a trilogy or a series in one entry, but even though this is a short YA series I had a few things to say about it and the way the author wrote all three books I felt that one entry should merge all of them.

This is a trilogy featuring three Avery sisters, Phoebe (who is the main character in Lucky - the first of the trilogy), Allison (the main character in Gorgeous - the second of the trilogy), and Quinn (the main character of Brilliant - the conclusion to the trilogy). Phoebe is the youngest, Allison is the middle child, and Quinn is the oldest child. Basically throughout the entire trilogy the girls are faced with the fact that their mom pulled a quasi Bernie Madoff sans a ponzi scheme and now their mom is jobless. The problem is her job was where the money was coming from for their big house, a Porsche  vacations in Paris, Piano and tennis lessons plus many other luxuries. The girls have to face their economic losses as well as a few other obstacles in each novel.

At first I thought I wasn't going to like these books, I thought they were going to be about spoiled rich kids and I wasn't going to be able to stand it but I kept reading on and actually became wrapped up in them. Rachel Vail also did a great job in putting together this trilogy and making it flow, although the way she worked it didn't make sense until I got to the last novel. Phoebe begins the story in Lucky, Allison recaps Phoebe's story through her viewpoint and makes the story continue, Quinn finishes up the events of the story. So she worked it with the youngest starting, the middle child picking up in the beginning and continuing onto the end, and the oldest child wrapping things up. Good technique that I haven't seen before in anything I read yet.

Pretty nice for YAs and adults too!

Book 295 Dates From Hell

Dates From Hell

705 books to go!

If you ever think you were on a date from hell, these 4 short stories involving paranormal romance will prove you wrong for sure. My favorite story was the last one about the demon hunter protecting a virgin from a succubus.

Book 294 Fables # 17 Inherit the Wind

Fables, Vol. 17: Inherit the Wind

In this Volume one of the cubs is picked to take the place of the departed North Wind.

Book 293 Walking Dead # 17 by Robert Kirkman

The Walking Dead: Something To Fear, Vol. 17

707 books to go!

This latest volume has some seriously sad stuff going on after Maggie and Glenn decide they want to move to the hill top community and Rick agrees to escort them by car from where they are currently living.

Book 292 Fifty Shames of Earl Grey by Fanny Merkin

Fifty Shames of Earl Grey: A Parody

708 books to go!

If you're pretty bored of fifty shades and books similar to the story, then this parody will provide you with a comedic retelling of epic proportions. Some of my favorite parts of the book range from Earl Grey owning everything under the sun, to him flying Anna in his helicopter across the street from her place of employment to a Starbucks that was a few feet away by walking.

Book 291 Fables #18 Cubs in Toyland

Fables, Vol. 18: Cubs in Toyland

709 books to go!

I'm blogging out of order, because I also read #17 but didn't blog about it yet. In this volume Therese and Dare get stuck in another world, while they are missing in their world. What happens to both of them is interesting, but also shocking and a little sad.

Book 290 Best Friends, Occasional Enemies by Lisa Scottoline and Francesca Serritella

Best Friends, Occasional Enemies: The Lighter Side of Life as a Mother and Daughter

710 books to go!

Another amusing book of columns by Lisa Scottoline and her equally talented daughter Francesca Serritella.

I give major props to Lisa Scottoline for sticking to these new books with her daughter. Her mystery writing wasn't really working out, the last mystery I read by her I didn't like all that much, although I liked her earlier works that I've read so far. I enjoy these books and hope her and her daughter write more, I still have to read my next isn't empty I just have more closet space.

Book 289 I hate everyone...starting with me by Joan Rivers

I Hate Everyone...Starting with Me

711 books to go!

Joan Rivers talks about her pet peeves in a comedic amusing style.

I thought I wasn't going to dig this book but I ended up liking it a lot, Joan Rivers surprised me with an enjoyable read that had me LOLing.
