This is Jeanette Walls' first fiction work. Her non fiction works are The Glass Castle and Half Broke Horses. Jean (nicknamed Bean) and Liz take off to find their uncle after their mom disappears for awhile and they find police outside their home in L.A. The two sisters adapt to small town life with their uncle but not without their fair share of bumps in the road.
