Book 282 The Sartorialist Closer by Scott Schuman

The Sartorialist: Closer

718 books to go!

This is Scott Schuman's second book. He also blogs online. He's a street photographer and he's always after snapping a person's personal style. Whether the person is in designer duds or a $5 lab coat, if they are rockin' it he's snappin' it. I hope one day this man spots me and likes what I'm wearing enough to take a photo but I'm not sure he would dig my style. These books are easy reads there is barely any text and just tons of street photographs. Definitely worth browsing if you are into clothes or fashion.

Book 277 Fatal friends, deadly neighbors and other true cases by Ann Rule

Fatal Friends, Deadly Neighbors: Ann Rule's Crime Files Volume 16

723 books to go!

I'm addicted to Ann Rule's books and whenever I learn she's written a new one I snatch it up off the library shelves as quickly as possible. When I found this one I reserved it and waited for it. It was good, typical Ann Rule true crime stories. The only thing I didn't like was that she wrote about a lot of things happening to children in these case files and I just don't really like reading stories where children are hurt, or where animals are hurt even though it does happen. The story and case she wrote about Coronado made me think carefully. Billionaire Jonah Shacknai lost his son and his girlfriend a mere few days apart. People began to wonder if his son's fall was truly an accident and if his girlfriend really committed suicide. Mr. Shacknai actually wasn't a suspect for their mysterious deaths. But the police have never solved this bizarre crime.  My theory about the girlfriend is that she was murdered by Mr. Shacknai's brother Adam who came to stay with the family after the son had his fall. I don't know if I'm correct though. I don't have any personal theories about his son Maxie's fall, coma and death that followed.

The New York Times Magazine Photographs

This book showcases many photos that have appeared in the New York Times Magazine over the years. Their are a few separate categories for photo featuring including Portraiture and Photojournalism. It's a great book to look at I found a few photos I really liked.

Book 274 Sam's Letters to Jennifer by James Patterson

Sam's Letters to Jennifer

726 books to go!

Even though he's formulaic I'm re-reading a lot of James Patterson and also picking up some of his new books. It's not great writing, he's a poppy writer icon, but I'm still reading them.

Jennifer goes back to Lake Geneva where she spent her summers with her grandmother Sam. Sam took a fall and is in a coma. When Jennifer gets into the house to settle down and stay while Sam is in a coma she finds a stack of letters Sam meant to give to her. In these letters Sam tells her story to her grand daughter and shares with her powerful pearls of inspirational wisdom. Jennifer also finds a pleasant surprise and chance while she stays at the lake, something she didn't expect to come across.

It's semi early Patterson, a pretty good foray into the inspirational love story. Definitely very much unlike the crap that is The Christmas Wedding.

Book 273 America Again by Stephen Colbert

America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't

727 books to go!

I found this book in my new home library when I was browsing books as Shawn was signing up for a library card. It's basically a bunch of hysterical nonsense written by Colbert about our country. The book is filled with photos, lines that will make you laugh, and certain pages are in 3D because Colbert wanted to jump ahead of the game and make his book 3D since 3D movies end up selling so well. Worth the read for any Colbert fan or anyone who just wishes to laugh about the state of our dear country.

Book 272 Miracle on the 17th Green by James Patterson

Miracle on the 17th Green

728 books to go!

Travis McKinley decides to go to Qualifying School after he is fired from his job and while he is in the midst of a rocky relationship with his wife. He wins a spot on the tournament and goes on to become part of the U.S. Senior open.

I'm not too familiar with golf so I didn't understand the golf terminology all that well, but this was a perfectly inspiring very nice story. It also didn't have cheesy written all over it like the Christmas Wedding. It's a nice little inspirational read if you are looking for a nice story to read.
